The 1400s ushered in a revival of antique knowledge and a blossoming of genius in the arts. This course will focus on sculpture, painting, and architecture in Florence, including: the Baptistry of San Giovanni and its doors by Andrea Pisano and Ghiberti; The Brancacci Chapel frescoes by Masaccio and Masolino; Brunelleschi’s dome for the Florence Cathedral; and the works of Donatello and Verrocchio. These artists (and others that will be featured in subsequent lectures), lay the foundation for the High Renaissance, which followed.
