Curious about the history of Brock House? Who built it, who lived here, and why the RCMP moved in? Is it true it was home to squatters and how did Brock House Society win the bid to lease the building? What about that story of the original oak banisters being stolen? Who were the visionaries who saw its possibilities and worked like crazy to restore and open it as a senior activity centre in 1978 … and what happened next? These are just some of the topics Jo Pleshakov, editor of “Thorley Park to Brock House: From Family Home to Heritage Landmark, 1912-2012”, will cover. Her presentation includes images and anecdotes from the files which are not in the book, plus information garnered from later contacts with Gilman descendants from the UK. Jo will be presenting in House only. Members can bring up to one non-member guest to the presentation.
