The Emerald Pig Theatrical Society (EPTS) was formed in 2001 and has been performing for audiences in Maple Ridge and Pitt Meadows ever since. Emerald Pig is an anagram for Maple Ridge. In 2005, EPTS decided to do “Bard on the Bandstand”, a summer festival of plays by William Shakespeare. Their first production was A Mid-Summer Night's Dream. They stage the plays on the bandstand in Memorial Peace Park. They’re free of charge and accessible to everyone. This summer’s performance is As You Like It, which Simon Challenger is directing.
Simon Challenger has been with Emerald Pig since 2007. His first production was As You Like It, in the role of Corin, the Shepherd. He’s currently the President of EPTS. He didn’t do much theatre prior to joining EPTS but found his place on the stage there as an actor and director and part of the production team. He has appeared in every “Bard on the Bandstand” production since his first performance of Shakespeare, including Caliban in The Tempest, Vincentio in Taming of the Shrew, George Page in Merry Wives of Windsor, and Egeon in Comedy of Errors. In 2013, he directed a production of Trying by Joanna McLelland Glass which was awarded top honors at Theatre BC’s Mainstage Festival. He also performed in a movie called Heart’s Creek which will be released this summer.
