A series of curated presentations to provide insight on a variety of topics related to seniors. See below for topics and Zoom instructions.

September 29th, 2021 - pre-recorded session - "How to Be Old" - best seller poetry book by New Zealander, Rachel McAlpine, who asks: "When was your wake-up birthday - the one that shocked you? 29, 49, 59? Rachel got the message when she was 75! " Join us as we view Rachel's video (filled with her experiences and humour); and discuss Rachel's exploratory steps that she is taking to maximize her "good old age", as well as the steps and experiences we can highlight in our very own journeys!


October 6th, 2021 – “Debunking Aging” with Donna Webb. An overview of common stereotypes, myths and misconceptions concerning aging. Donna a member of Brock House and a busy volunteer has done much research in this area. Her presentation is engaging and will challenge us to rethink about aging.

October 13th, 2021 – “Sleep Psychology: Benefit of Sleep on Emotions and Health during the Pandemic” - Jin-Hui Wen, MA(Psychology), PhD student (UBC). As well, Jin-Hui will share other work with respect to how older adults fared during this time of stress and uncertainty. 

October 20th, 2021 – “Estate Planning: Wills” - Mary Richter, Lawyer

October 27th, 2021 – “Move for your Physical and Cognitive Health” - In this presentation, we will review the current evidence regarding the role of physical exercise in promoting cognitive and mobility outcomes in older adults with Dr. Theresa Liu-Ambrose, PhD, P.T. UBC Associate Professor. Dr. Liu-Ambrose’s research focuses on understanding the role of exercise in promoting cognitive and mobility outcomes in older adults. Her research expertise are in randomized controlled trials, exercise prescription for older adults, cognitive neuroscience, and mobility aging. Her research findings have been implemented into clinical practice, community programs, and influenced international practice guidelines to promote healthy aging.
