WRITE FROM THE HEART is a group for aspiring writers of fact or fiction. In this 8 week we will explore theme, research, character development and other aspects of what is needed to write a good fiction story or memoir. Each class will include writing prompts. Instructor: Ruth Kozak. (See further details below.)

SETTING THE STAGE: HOW TO WRITE FICTION NOVELS OR MEMOIRS.

 

Week 1.     Choosing your subject. (If you are writing a memoir, what point of your life or specific events will you write about (i.e. a travel memoir.)

 

Week 2.      Theme  

 

Week 3.      Developing Plot

 

Week 4.      Voice  (first person or third person singular  or multiple point of view 

 

Week 5.      Developing Your Characters  (in memoirs, perhaps some geneology background etc.)

 

Week 6.      Dialogue. (in memoirs, which are first person narratives, there are often other people telling stories. This is called a “frame story” and is told in the voice of that person.

 

Week 7.      Setting. Where does your story take place and when? (writing description).

 

Week 8.      Research tips.  How much research do you need to do?  And how to do it. (sources)
