What’s up with our website?

Forum or against 'em

We introduced forums on the BHS website at the beginning of 2021 as a way for members to exchange information with each other while isolating at home during Covid.

As provincial restrictions ease and members begin to interact again in person, you might think that the usefulness of forums would diminish. I think you’d be wrong.

Forums are an excellent way to share information that you’d like to save for future retrieval – something that might be too long to remember after a casual conversation. It could be a recipe for banana bread that someone told you about, a list of summer reads, or a new podcast.

Forums are also a useful a way to request assistance, e.g. computer trouble, carpentry needs, dog sitting, etc.

But forums require a critical mass to be effective. If no one responds to what you’ve posted, you’re just talking to yourself.

Several “threads” have been created this year, including Book Club, Take-out Dinners, Handy Person, and others. You can view these threads and their respective “posts” without logging in. But you must log in to start a new “thread” or post to a thread.

I created a new forum thread today called, Favourite TV Shows. I’m always looking for new shows to watch and hoping that you’ll list some of your favourites too. Check it out.

Let me know what you think in the comments area below. (If you don’t see the comments area, it’s because you need to log in first.)
