The Golden SPIRE: A Path to Happier Living

About this event

Presented by Hellen Yang & Helen Yu

Explore the science of wellbeing through SPIRE, a practical framework developed by Dr. Tal Ben-Shahar (former Harvard professor). SPIRE focuses on five areas of wellbeing: Spiritual, Physical, Intellectual, Relational, and Emotional.

In this interactive introductory workshop, members of the Vancouver Happiness Studies Academy Chapter will use stories, reflection, conversation, and a simple “SPIRE Map” to explore how these five areas can contribute to greater balance, purpose, and resilience.

This is a standalone introductory session. If there is sufficient interest, the organizers hope to partner with Brock House Society on a five-part series exploring each element of SPIRE in greater depth through practical, evidence-based wellbeing activities.

Hellen Yang is a Master Certified Coach who specializes in the science of wellbeing and happiness for human flourishing. Bringing a compassionate mind-body approach and experience in pain management support, she helps seniors gracefully navigate life transitions. Using the SPIRE model, Hellen creates a safe space for participants to activate their inner strengths, cultivate presence, and discover their own "Golden SPIRE" of wellbeing.

Helen Yu, Leader of the Vancouver Happiness Studies Academy (HSA) Chapter. She is a dedicated practitioner of the SPIRE model. Passionate about fostering human connection and community belonging, she brings happiness to life through practical, grounded habits. As founder of "The Happy Golfers," Helen helps seniors cultivate joy, nurture everyday growth, and share the light of their own "Golden SPIRE."
