AC407 Beginner Sketching

About this event

Instructor: Alison Guan

Learn the fundamentals of sketching in this relaxed and supportive beginner-friendly class.

We’ll explore basic drawing techniques including line, shape, proportion, shading, and simple perspective through a variety of guided exercises and subjects. No previous drawing experience is required. With step-by-step demonstrations and individual support, participants will build confidence, improve observation skills, and enjoy expressing themselves through drawing.

Alison Guan is a visual artist whose practice spans more than three decades, shaped by rigorous traditional fine art training and a sustained commitment to observational painting. Working primarily in watercolor and oil, she explores a broad range of subjects including still life, portraiture, the human figure, and landscape. Her work reflects a deep sensitivity to light, color, form, atmosphere, and human presence, balancing technical discipline with a refined and personal approach to visual expression.

Alison is also the Co-founder and Curriculum Development Director of Green Apple Art Center in Vancouver, which she has operated for 22 years. Alongside her studio practice, she has spent more than two decades teaching and mentoring emerging artists.
