The purpose of the SuPA mobility study is to determine whether 6 months of one-on-one health coaching or group-based health education sessions will increase positive lifestyle behaviours, such as physical activity participation, and improve mobility in individuals who are experiencing some challenges with their mobility (e.g., slower walking). See details of the study below.

About this event
There will be eight 20-minute coaching or group sessions over 6 months. As a part of the study, you will also complete mandatory assessment sessions at Vancouver General Hospital. We are looking for people ages 70-89 years old. Questions: email Sarah at sarah.heath@ubc.ca
Thursday, April 25th – Presentation: Preventing Falls and Mobility Disability (Dr. Teresa Liu-Ambrose + Dr. Jordyn Rice)
o Includes a presentation of the knowledge gaps + our research

We would like to provide an education session first on the role of exercise in promoting mobility and preventing falls and highlight current knowledge gaps.

We then will provide more specifics regarding our current study on exercise and the prevention of mobility disability.
o Initial screening questions to see if people may be eligible to join (~10min per person)
o Those who appear eligible after the initial screening can return back tomorrow to undergo a more thorough assessment to confirm their eligibility
Thursday, May 2th – Screening day for the SuPA Mobility Study
o Reviewing consent form, physical + cognitive assessments and questionnaires (~20-30min per person)
o Enroll eligible participants into the study and schedule them for baseline assessments at VGH
