About this event
Indigenous lawyer, Leah George-Wilson (Sisi-ya-ama) was the first woman elected to be the Chief of the Tsleil-Waututh Nation (TWN) in North Vancouver, a position she held for four terms. A hard-working community leader, she has negotiated for Indigenous rights on behalf of the TWN in both provincial and federal courts. Leah has a degree in Anthropology from S.F.U. and took her law degree at U.B.C. She has held numerous board positions, not the least of which was on the First Nations Land Advisory Board. Remarkably, Leah began her law degree part-time after being the Chief so she could continue working for her Nation and raise her children. Leah is passionate about photography, tracing TWN family trees and safeguarding the TWN language.
