Calling for Winter Fair volunteers

Did you know that our annual Winter Fair is one of our most important fundraising events of the year? Want to help the busy volunteers who are preparing for it? with our upcoming annual Winter Fair?  Whether this is your first time volunteering or you’re one of the stalwarts, you’ll be having fun while doing good for our community. Plus, it’s a great opportunity to get to know your fellow members and learn what our volunteers do. So, if you’d like to have some fun, feel good about yourself, get your holiday spirit glowing, and support Brock House, here’s how:

Email Volunteer Coordinator Joanna Walentowicz at joanna2662@gmail.com or Anapaula at anapaula@bhsociety.ca.

Winter Fair donations welcome

Our curated collection of donated items is always a big draw for bargain hunters, and a great revenue generator for us. Please drop off your donations by Nov 20 (except indoor plants, which we can only take on the day of Nov 22).

Please be kind to our fair volunteers

It’s tough work moving, sorting, and disposing of unsold stuff, so this year, we’re only accepting donations that we’re pretty sure will sell, and only in the following categories:

  • Jewelry

  • Vintage clothing and accessories

  • Treasures (attractive and/or useful collectibles, puzzles, games, toys, etc.)

  • Gardening pots (one gallon size), and nice indoor plant pots

  • Indoor plants (please bring on Nov 22 only)

If you think you might have a possible donation, we kindly ask that you do not drop it off until you have received confirmation that it is an acceptable item. Consult our donations page to find out what is eligible, and how to drop it off.

Discussion with Sarah Rodgers, November 12

Sarah Rodgers is the Artistic Director of United Players of Vancouver. She is also a well-known theatre director and an actor in theatre, film, and television. She has worked for theatre companies in Vancouver and across Canada, and has toured extensively throughout the US and Japan. She has received several Jessie Richardson Professional Theatre Awards and Musical Theatre Ovation awards. Some highlights of her directing career include The Lion, the Witch and the Wardrobe, Always Patsy Cline, Gas Light, The Little Mermaid, Elf, The Audience, and A Christmas in Wales. Next month she’ll be directing a production of It’s a Wonderful Life: On Air at the Jericho Arts Centre, and it’s sure to be great.

Sarah loves Vancouver’s thriving theatre community, both the high-calibre work of the larger theatres, and the cutting-edge work of our many small theatre companies.

It's a Wonderful LIfe: On the Air

This is the next show that Raise the Stage, our theatre-going group, will attend.

You’ve probably seen the ever-popular film called “It’s a Wonderful Life.” But probably not this clever adaptation for the stage, which is set in a 1940s radio broadcast studio, where actors, singers, and production crew are putting on a live-to-radio broadcast. You’ll get both the magic of the original story and the fun of a vintage radio drama, complete with old-style commercials and jingles. It’s a lively and heartwarming show for the holidays, directed by Sarah Rodgers, who will be speaking at Brock House on November 12. Don’t miss it!

Our Raise the Stage group will be meeting up to see this show at the Jericho Arts Centre sometime between Nov 29 and Dec 22.

For more information, or to get on the email list, contact Jennifer at jennia2000@yahoo.commailto:jennia2000@yahoo.com.
